Galaxy S7 Series on T-Mobile Gets March Update

Good news for those of you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge on the T-Mobile network.  The March security update for Android is coming your way starting today via an OTA update.  The update is small, sub-50MB, so it won’t take you long to download it although a restart is required of your phone during the update process.  Once it is completed, you will be on the latest-and-greatest Marshmallow build.  The versions you are looking for is G930TUVS2APB8 for both devices and T-Mobile is saying everyone will have it between now and March 25th.

YouTube Now On T-Mobile’s BingeOn

Whether you like it or not, T-Mobile’s BingeOn service has been a pretty big hit for the carrier.  If you aren’t familiar with it, BingeOn allows customers to stream video and music content on the T-Mobile network without taking a hit to their monthly data allotment.  There has been a lot of digital ink spilled on if the program is good or bad but the bottom line is it works for customers.  One big gap though was YouTube.  Google’s video service was not in BingeOn and there has been a fair amount of tussling between the carrier and Google.  Now, it seems, all is better between the companies as the service has now been added.

T-Mobile & Verizon One M8 Seeing Marshmallow

After what could only be described as a snail’s pace for the release of Android Marshmallow by manufactures and carriers, the last few weeks have been more of a frantic pace.  Last Friday I posted that the Galaxy Note 5 on Verizon was seeing the latest version of Android start to roll and today the carrier along with competitor T-Mobile have begun the release of Marshmallow the HTC One M8.

T-Mobile Already Preparing Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Shipments

It looks like those of you who ordered your new Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge from T-Mobile are going to get your shiny new toy a little early.  Various users on Reddit have reported that they have received shipping notices from the carrier with some devices shipping as early as today.  This is well ahead of the launch date of March 11th which I reported last week when pre-orders began.  The shipping dates appear to have been confirmed by T-Mobile reps with these Reddit users and there are big number of them reporting this.  It looks like it is a go.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Pre-Sales Start Today

As expected and announced, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are now available for pre-sale from AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon.  All four of the carriers started taking orders today with an anticipated delivery date no later than March 11th.  All of the carriers have the 32GB version of these devices as Samsung has made no plans to sell the 64GB versions here in the US.  While the prices for the devices varies a little, all of them have financing plans available to get you the new phone without having to necessarily come up with $600+ dollars today.

T-Mobile Has Doubled LTE Footprint in 2015

Yesterday, T-Mobile announced their Q4 2015 numbers and they were pretty impressive overall.  The company added 2.1 million new customers, bringing their total for all of 2015 to 8.3 million for the year.  They also added some 1.3 million branded postpaid users, bringing that total up to 4.5 million for the year.  Couple this with the overall financial figures of $297 million in income for the quarter and over $730 million for the year, the company is on pretty solid foundations for growth in 2016.

There was one interesting note in the release on their financial report when it came to T-Mobile’s LTE coverage.  In the report, the company states they have doubled their 4G LTE footprint since this time last year.  That is a huge amount of growth and it doesn’t show signs of slowing down.

T-Mobile Launches Buy One-Get One Half Price Promotion

T-Mobile has kicked off a great promotion for those who are looking to upgrade devices or add devices to an existing account or if you are opening up a new account.  The applies to select Samsung and LG phones and when you make the purchase, both devices have to be from the same manufacture.  This promo could add up to some pretty significant savings if you are needing to upgrade devices in your family.

The eligible devices are as follows:

  • LG G4
  • LG V10
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+

That’s right, these are the latest and greatest devices from LG and Samsung so you aren’t getting what’s left at the bottom of the barrel.

Blackberry Priv is Now Available on T-Mobile

If you have been waiting for the Blackberry Priv to come to T-Mobile then today is a very good day for you.  The flagship device from the company (and perhaps the savior of it all?) has come to T-Mobile and is available for Zero down on a 30 month payment plan for $30 per month or an outright purchase of $719.99.  The pricing is in line with what is offered by AT&T, the carrier who had the device exclusively since it’s launch so don’t expect a savings on it.

While the Blackberry Priv has had some mixed reviews, overall the device has done well in the market.  Currently it is running on Lollipop 5.1.1 but it is expected to receive its Marshmallow update this quarter.  Given that Blackberry has positioned the Priv as a secure and privacy friendly device, it is regularly updated with security patches and fixes and that should continue even after the Marshmallow update.
