With the 2018 F1 season just 79 days away, the Liberty Media owned sport is already ramping things up to get fans ready.  This morning a new update to the official F1 app was released for Android, bringing with it the 2018 race schedule and some overall changes to the look of the app.

The update is version 10.004 for those keeping score at home and if you have the app already installed, you should get the OTA update over the course of the next few days.  The first change you will notice is the app’s icon has changed to reflect the new, and somewhat controversial, logo for the sport.  The logo had not changed since 1994 but with new owners comes new looks.

As we begin 2018, another phone is getting updated to Android Oreo.  The ASUS ZenFone 4 is that phone, with the announcement of the release of the Oreo update coming last Friday.  The update, build V15.0405.1711.76 for those keeping score at home, will start rolling out as an OTA update this week to owners.

The update brings all of the normal features of Android Oreo to the ZenFone 4 along with the December 2017 Android Security Update patch.  While an exact size of the update wasn’t disclosed in the announcement, you can expect it to come in at or just over 1GB based on other phones getting their Oreo update.  It is an update you will certainly want to download connected to WiFi and you will need at least 80% battery life remaining in order to install it.

A few weeks ago, I started wearing an Android Wear watch once again, the Ticwatch E.  I started wearing for the review of that watch but I quickly found that with the 2.x version of Wear, combined with solid hardware, that it was a great overall experience.  I’m a fan of this watch and I’m a fan of all that Android Wear, version 2.7 on my particular watch, has to offer me.

But as far as Wear as a platform has come, the app for Android is a horrible experience.  It may well be one of the most forgotten app that Google makes that is aimed at mainstream use by consumers.  It is a frustrating, half baked experience that Google needs to address if they have any hope of making the platform great.

The Microsoft Store, the Redmond company’s online retail site, has had a quite but important shift on their phone offerings.  For the first time, the store is now selling more Android based devices than Windows 10.  It is a move that isn’t overly shocking given that Microsoft has more-or-less put Windows 10 Mobile into maintenance mode.

Two Windows 10 Mobile phones have been removed from the store which caused the shift to Android.  The Acer Liquid Jade Primo and Acer Liquid M330 were removed from the store yesterday, leaving only the HP Elite x3 and Alcatel IDOL 4S as offerings for Windows 10 Mobile devices.  Meanwhile, the store now lists the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, and the new Razer Phone as options for shoppers.
