OnePlus has released an update to the OxygenOS platform that brings Android Oreo to the OnePlus 5.  The update comes a little earlier than expected as the company had indicated the update would be in early 2018.  But, after months of testing in their beta channel, it appears the company is ahead of schedule and has released a little early.

The actual roll out of the update to the OnePlus 5 began yesterday but, as OnePlus typically does, it went to only a small percentage of customers yesterday and will gradually expand out to the entire customer base over the course of the next few days.  The update is 1.5GB in size so you will want to make sure you download it via WiFi and install it with at least 80% of your battery remaining unless you are connected to AC.

The change log on this update is massive and brings Oreo, the December Android Security Update and multiple other new features or improvements to the phone.

OnePlus has begun rolling out a new OxygenOS build for their new flagship, the OnePlus 5T.  The update is build 4.7.4 for those keeping score at home and brings several improvements to the device.  It is an update that 5T owners will want to get as soon as possible.

The headliner in the update is the optimization of the camera app’s UI and the overall improvement of photo quality.  The improvement in quality is especially in low-light situations.  Most owners of the 5T have been generally pleased with the camera and photo quality from the phone but there have been a few complaints around low light situations.  This update should address those concerns.

OnePlus has announced that they have released an incremental update to their Android based OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5.  The new build, 4.5.11, is rolling out today to a small group of users and assuming all goes well, it will start rolling out to a larger contingent of OnePlus 5 owners.

The update is fundamentally a bug fix and security update release.  The release brings the September Android Security Update to the device and it also fixes an issue with 4G+ networks that some users were experiencing in some regions of the world.

OnePlus has begun the process of releasing core apps within OxygenOS, their version of Android, to the Google Play Store.  This allows for the apps to be developed independent of OS releases which, in turn, makes updates faster on the apps while concentrating the major system releases on new features and fixes.

This step is very similar to what Google themselves have been doing over the past 18 months and other manufactures such as Samsung and Huawei have been doing recently too.

For those of you who have the OnePlus 2, there is a new update to OxygenOS rolling out starting today.  Before everyone gets excited, no, this is not an update to Android Nougat.  If you recall, OnePlus last month indicated that the OP2 would not be updated to Nougat despite earlier promises.  This update, however, does contain the June Android Security Update so it is still a great thing to see even if it is still on Marshmallow.

The update is OxygenOS 3.6.0 and primarily is an update to get the security update done but also add some other key fixes to the device.  The OTA is rolling out to a small number of OP2 owners today with a broader distribution later this week should all go well with the initial phase.

OnePlus has released OxygenOS 4.1.3 this morning for the OnePlus 3 and 3T.  The update brings a host of improvements to the flagship devices along with upgrading the platform to Android Nougat 7.1.1.  For those who aren’t OnePlus users, OxygenOS is the company’s version of Android.  It is actually a very-near stock Android experience with a few tweaks and is a solid performing platform that OnePlus has been continually updating these past few months.

As has been the case in the past, OnePlus is slow rolling the OTA update out to users.  Therefore, it could be a few days before everyone sees the update hit their devices.
