Good news this morning for those of you who have the LG V30 tied to AT&T. The Android Oreo update for the phone has been released and is starting to roll out. The update is build OPR1.170623.026 for those keeping score at home and, typical of most Oreo updates, it comes it at a hefty 1.7GB in size. This is one you will certainly need to download via WiFi.
The update, to some’s disappointment, does not bring Oreo 8.1 but it does bring the March Android Security Update patch.
AT&T’s release notes for the update only outline that fixes for Spectre and Meltdown are provided but doesn’t cover any additional features or functionality. That said, some users have reported getting some of the features of the recently announced LG V30S like the AI driven camera functions.
If you have a V30, you can go to Settings>About Phone>Software Update to check for the update. It is still in the process of rolling out so it may still be a day or two before everyone sees it. My V30, which I reviewed last November, as of this morning still has not received the update.
AT&T the last couple of weeks has made some great strides in getting updates out to their customers. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 is also being updated on the carrier and they were, in fact, the first US carrier to get it out to their customers. They got beat by Verizon on the V30 update but not by much. Great to see them getting updates out faster.
