Nokia 6 Update to Android Nougat 7.1.1 Released

While the Nokia 6 is in limited markets currently, that doesn’t mean that parent company HMD Global is not giving it love and attention.  The Android Nougat 7.1.1 update is now rolling out to the phone with a raft of improvements along with all the goodness that 7.1.1 brings itself.  The update is build 00CN_3_170 for those keeping score at home and weighs in at 369MB.  Like all major updates, its recommended that you download the update via a Wi-Fi connection.  The update process is quick, under 15 minutes, after you download it to your phone.

For those who don’t remember, Nougat 7.1.1 brings new emoji to the platform as well as direct sending of GIFs in supported apps, and app shortcuts when you long press the icon of an app supporting them.  The update also comes with the April 2017 Android Security patch.  That makes the Nokia 6 one of the very few phones running 7.1.1 and the April patch outside of Google devices.

Android Nougat 7.1.1 Comes in The Latest OnePlus 3 and 3T Update

OnePlus has released OxygenOS 4.1.3 this morning for the OnePlus 3 and 3T.  The update brings a host of improvements to the flagship devices along with upgrading the platform to Android Nougat 7.1.1.  For those who aren’t OnePlus users, OxygenOS is the company’s version of Android.  It is actually a very-near stock Android experience with a few tweaks and is a solid performing platform that OnePlus has been continually updating these past few months.

As has been the case in the past, OnePlus is slow rolling the OTA update out to users.  Therefore, it could be a few days before everyone sees the update hit their devices.

Nextbit Robin Beta Testers Now Working on Nougat 7.1.1

With the release of Android Nougat 7.0 for beta testers and soon customers, Nextbit Robin beta testers are now turning their attention to Nougat 7.1.1 testing.  Beta testers were informed today that the 7.1.1 build would soon be pushed to their registered devices in the closed beta, with emphasis on bug fixing and testing out of features specific to that build.  Part of the good news for beta testers is that the build will also have the March Android Security Update.

At this point, if you are a Robin owner, it is difficult to get into the beta program but not impossible.  You can find out details about the program in this post in the Nextbit Community forums.

ZTE Axon 7 Gets Nougat 7.1.1 Update

Chinese manufacture ZTE has started rolling out the Android Nougat 7.1.1 update to the Axon 7.  This is a big deal as it makes the Axon 7 one of the first non-Google devices to get the 7.1.1 update.  That, of course means that things like App Shortcuts along with overall improved stability is coming to the phone.  ZTE rolled out the Nougat 7.0 update earlier this year so having the 7.1.1 update follow up right behind it is a bit of a surprise.

The update comes with the February Android Security Update which brings pretty close to where Google phones are with the March update.  It also brings the new emoji that come in 7.1.1 and optimizations throughout the device.  The Axon 7 is also one of the few non-Google phones optimized with Daydream for VR and this update brings further optimizations to that element of the

phone.

If you have a ZTE Axon 7, the upgrade to this build is pretty small at under 200MB.  Once you have it downloaded, the update will take about 20 minutes to install and will require a reboot of your phone.

Android Security Update for March Released – Already Hitting Devices

The March Android Security Update has been released for Nexus and Pixel devices and, the good news, the update is already rolling out to devices.  The update was officially released yesterday and has become the way of things, consists of two patches.  The first patch, dated March 1st, contains three critical patches and 8 high priority patches.  This patch is generally for all Android devices while the second patch, dated March 5th, has 8 critical patches and contains a whopping 21 high priority patches.  This update is mostly for Nexus and Pixel devices.

Like previous releases, this month’s security update has been released as a full factory image for those who want to flash their devices manually and so has the OTA patch to do an incremental update.  For those who want to wait until Google actually pushes it to your phone or tablet, you won’t have to wait long.

Android Nougat 7.1.1 Arrives for the Nexus 6

Nexus 6 owners, rejoice!  Google has just released Android Nougat 7.1.1 for the phone, bringing it line with other Nexus and Pixel phones.  The update, build N6F26Q, comes a few weeks after the initial release of 7.1.1 with a few remaining bug issues preventing it from being released on the 2014 flagship Nexus device.  Google had committed to having the update out this week and, true to their word, it has happened.

Full factory images and OTA images are now available on the Android Developer site for those who want to manually flash your devices.  For those of you who want to wait, the OTA is rolling out now and should be hitting devices over the course of the next few days.  Keep in mind however it can take a week or two before it hit everyone.

January Android Security Update Released

As expected, Google released the January Android Security Update patches yesterday for the Google Pixel phones and Nexus devices.  The full system images and the OTA images have been released to the Android Developer site already so users who have these devices should start seeing the OTA update come to their phones or tablets over the course of the next few days.  For those who want to manually flash, you can do so with these factory images.

The new build versions are as follows:

  • Google Pixel XL – NMF26U or NMF26V (for Verizon owners)
  • Google Pixel – NMF26U or NMF26V (for Verizon owners)
  • Pixel C – N4F26I
  • Nexus 6P – N4F26I and N4F26J
  • Nexus 5X – N4F26I and N4F26J
  • Nexus Player – NMF26R
  • Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi) – NMF26R

Notably the Nexus 6 is not on this list nor is the Nexus 9 LTE version.  The Nexus 6 should be getting Nougat 7.1.1 next week but it is unclear why the Nexus 9 LTE did not get updates yet.
