Android Pay to Integrate with MasterCard and Visa Payment Systems

Google has announced that Android Pay will be integrating with two popular payment systems, MasterCard’s Masterpass and Visa’s Visa Checkout, in early 2017.  The integration will bring more opportunities for consumers to use the Pay app and selecting which backend payment option that want the funds to be drawn from for the transaction while shopping online.

Android Pay users will soon be able to pay on hundreds of thousands of new sites where Visa Checkout or Masterpass are accepted using their preferred device authentication method – like fingerprint recognition. No longer will users have to remember multiple usernames and passwords in order to checkout, saving them time and hassle.

When the app is updated in early 2017, you will be able to configure it to be your single app for payments online.

Chrome for Android Update Brings Android Pay Support

A new version of the Chrome browser for Android is making its way into the Play Store.  The updated build, version 53.0.2785.97 for those keeping score at home, has a lot of security updates and improvements that we’ve come to expect from these types of updates.  However, there is also support for Payment Request API which means that this build of Chrome supports Android Pay.  The Payment Request API is somewhat self explanatory but here is the W3C definition:

This specification describes a web API to allow merchants (i.e. web sites selling physical or digital goods) to easily accept payments from different payment methods with minimal integration. User agents (e.g., browsers) will facilitate the payment flow between merchant and user.

This means that you will be able to use Android Pay to pay for goods and services through the Chrome browser on your phone without having to type in a credit card number.  It should make buying goods online faster and more secure.

Chase Bank Finally Supports Android Pay

After months of waiting, Chase has finally started supporting Android Pay.  The support makes Chase one of the last major banks in the United States to support the tap-to-pay app and frankly put it behind smaller, regional banks in supporting the service.  Why the delay is unclear as the bank has been supporting Apple Pay and Samsung Pay for some time.  It was just a matter of them getting around to supporting Android Pay.

If you are a Chase banking customer and have a device that supports the service, you can now add your debit or credit cards to the app to be used at touch terminals for payment.

Android Pay Comes to Singapore Starting Today

Good news for those of you in Singapore.  Today you can download the Android Pay app and start using the service wherever tap-and-pay is supported.  The expansion comes a couple of weeks after Samsung Pay made its way to the country and gives users the ability to make secure payments from their phone without having to pull a credit card out of their pocket. In order to use the service, you have to have a MasterCard or Visa from a supported bank.  Those banks include Standard Chartered Bank, OCBC Bank and POSB.  DBS and UOB are also supported.

AndroidPay Sees 48 New Banks Including Capital One

Android Pay has received another round of banks and financial institutions that support the tap-and-pay service, including Capital One (finally).  In all, there are 48 new banks and financial institutions added to the service, ranging from big nationals to small local banks and Credit Unions.  It is just the latest in what has turned into a series of updates to the service and the institutions that support it for their customers.  These new additions mean that customers can add their debit card from a supported bank and use it to pay for things at a touch terminal.

Bank of America To Support Android Pay on Thousands of ATMs

Bank of America has announced that they are rolling out Android Pay support to 5,000 ATMs across the United States over the course of this year.  The new support will allow users of Android Pay to tap their phone at the ATM to withdraw cash from their accounts as well as check balances and make transfers between accounts.  The good news is the banking giant isn’t waiting around.  2,400 ATMs are expected to have Pay support by the end of this month.
