BLU is running another sale today over at the Amazon store front and the BLU Studio 6.0 HD LTE is one of the highlights.  Today you can pick up the 6″ Android phablet with its 13MP camera, 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM for only $206.84.  That’s a savings of just over 26% off the regular price of $279.  This is the full blown LTE version too which will work here in the United States on T-Mobile and while it will work with AT&T, you will likely only get HSDPA+.  It’s a great price for a device that is loaded with the specifications of this phone and certainly one to consider if you are looking for a big screen, budget minded phone.

BLU Announces Lollipop Coming To A Wide Range of Devices

BLU over the weekend announced that Android Lollipop will be coming to a wide range of their devices over the course of this summer.  In a post on Google+, the Florida based company posted that they will have the latest version for their devices in the May and July time frame depending on the device.  The news is good for those who have the devices, especially those on the mid to lower end where Lollipop upgrades from many OEMs are coming few and far between if ever.

Review of The BLU VIVO IV Android Phone – Affordable Luxury

Over the past couple of weeks I have been using the BLU VIVO IV Android phone as my primary device.  While I still remain skeptical of the Android platform for a lot of reasons (I’m not a fan of the UI for example), that could not detour me from this phone.  BLU, a US-based company, has an outstanding device in the VIVO IV.  It is sexy slim, solidly built and has some outstanding features that make this $299 phone (I picked mine up for $199 from B&H) one everyone should consider if they are looking for an affordable phone.  While the BLU VIVO IV isn’t perfect, a lot of what I didn’t like about it can be adjusted through other apps available in the Play Store.  It means you may have to do some customizing to get it the way you want it but performance wise, you are not going to be disappointed.

First Impressions of The BLU VIVO IV Android Phone

Earlier this week I ordered a BLU VIVO IV Android phone from B&H Photo.  The idea behind getting this phone was really two fold.  First, I needed it for work to do some testing of software.  Second, when it comes to this blog, the reality is that right now Microsoft’s apps for mobile devices are far superior on Android and iOS than they are to Windows Phone.  That is going to change – soon I think – but in order for me to be a “Windows centric” site, I have to look at these other platforms for which Microsoft makes apps.

I will tell you though that I found the selection process for finding a new Android phone painful.  With iOS you get two choices on screen size and three choices on how much storage you want.  With Windows Phone, it is somewhat the same although you could argue there is a bit more variety available especially around screen size.  Then there is Android.  Not only do you have the normal screen size and storage capacity questions but you also have the question of what version of Android is on a device and if it is upgradable.  It is a bit of a nightmare and I will argue with anyone who tells me there is not fragmentation in the Android ecosystem due to the wide range of versions of Android running on devices.

But I digress.  I selected the BLU VIVO IV for several reasons.  First, spec-wise, it is impressive.  It is powered by a 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM.  It comes with 16GB of storage built in but that is not expandable.  There is no MicroSD slot in this phone.  For some that’s a deal breaker but the reality is, for what I’m using this phone for, that should be plenty of storage.
