The Glance screen app for Windows phone has been updated and it has some big improvements and new features. The biggest new feature is the ability to have live lockscreen information on your Glance screen. While it is currently limited to only MSN Weather and Health & Fitness, you can now get this information on the Glance screen without having to actually start your Windows Phone.
The Glance app, which is included in several Windows Phone models or can be downloaded separately, allows you to view, erm, at a glance, information such as email, messages and other important information on one screen while your Windows Phone sits idle without having to actually turn on your phone to get to the Lockscreen.
When you got to the Glance screen settings, you will see a new option for Background app. This is where you select which app you
want to view on the screen. If this option is greyed out, that means that your current Lockscreen app is not supported. Change your Lockscreen settings to either show MSN Weather or MSN Health & Fitness and the option will be enabled.
The other big update with Glance is support for Lumia Cyan firmware. Up until this update users on Cyan had mixed results at best with Glance and it was not exactly stable. Those issues should go away with this update.
The Glance app is included in several Windows Phone models so if it is included, you should have received the update if you have automatic updates enabled. If you do, go to Settings then scroll down to Glance screen in the settings. You will be prompted to reboot if the update is installed. Upon reboot you can then select which live lockscreen app you want to display on your Glimpse screen. You will know if you have the latest version if you go into Glance settings and see the option Background app.
If you do not have Glance on your Windows Phone you can use the links to download it and install it. You will find it under Settings on your device.
The app is free and available now in the Windows Phone Store.
