Yelp for Android has been updated for Android Phone users that brings the restaurant, bar and coffee shop searching app, quite literally, closer to home. With this latest update, which is now available in the Google Play Store, you can add a Yelp search bar to your Home Screen that makes finding a restaurant, coffee shop or bar quicker than ever. The updated build is version 7.6.1 for those keeping score at home.
If you haven’t used Yelp in the past, it is a service that allows you to search for just about anything near you. Aimed mostly for restaurants and bars, you can also find things like hotels and business such as salons, spas, petrol stations and shopping malls. Plus, as a free member of Yelp, you can review these places for others to read and make their own decisions to visit. The Yelp for Android app has always been quite robust and feature rich and this update should make it that much more powerful for those who use the app and service today.
Yelp for Android users can now add a simple bar Home Screen widget to their devices by going to the widgets menu on your device. The widget comes pre-defined with the ability to one-tap open Yelp and search for nearby restaurants, coffee shops or bars. You can also tap on the search icon on the bar to open the app and search for anything near you. It is designed to get you to what you are searching for more quickly.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen Yelp provide those search results within the widget itself instead of dropping me into the Yelp for Android app but this is still a faster search method than multi-taps to open and search in the app itself.
In addition to this new Home Screen widget, the Yelp for Android app now also lets you search your previous food orders you have made within the app (yes, some restaurants let you order directly from Yelp if you didn’t know). Now you can search through your previous orders so you can order that exact same pizza that you loved so much last week. 🙂
Yelp is a free service and you can join by using your Facebook, Google+ or an email address.
