Nexus Protect Site Goes Live

At the Google event earlier in the week, we heard about the new Nexus Protect program for the first time.  The program covers your new Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P against manufacturing defects or inflicted damages on the devices for 2 years.  Now Google has pushed the button and the MyNexusProtect is now live.  While you can’t make claims or really do much more than search details on the site, this eventually will be the portal by which customers who sign up for the service when they get their new 5X or 6P can make claims.

As a refresher, the Nexus Protect plan is $69 for the Nexus 5X and $89 for the Nexus 6P and extends the manufacture warranty from Google an additional year.  In addition, you are covered from

accidental damage you inflict on the phone which can be claimed a total of 2 times during the two year program.  If you make an accidental damage claim, you will have a $79 deductible and the claim has to be made within 90 days of the damage happening.  The Nexus Protect program is only available on the 5X and 6P’s bought from Google directly.

If you make a claim through the program, a replacement phone will be shipped to you and often as soon as the next business day.  The FAQ area of the site lays out the details of this process and what you will need to do in order to get your replacement Nexus back up and running.

While these types of programs aren’t for everyone, they certainly will give some consumers some comfort when they are paying out several hundred dollars on these new devices.
