Android March Security Update OTA Starting Now

The March security update OTA for the Nexus 5X and 6P has been released by Google while the Nexus 6 will be seeing the update as soon as next week.  The news came via the Project Fi User Forums where moderator Orrin who outlined the timeline for the update hitting devices.  If you are a Nexus 5X or 6P user, regardless if you are on Project Fi or not, you should see the update very soon.

In the post, Orrin points out that the update not only contains security fixes and improvements but also addresses performance issues on these devices.  These performance improvements have been discussed a little bit within the Android community who have already manually flashed the March update to their devices. In particular, it seems

that issues with lagging on the 5X has been all-but eliminated while other general performance improvements are also found for the 6P.

Because the post was in the Project Fi forums, no news was given on when the Nexus 9, Nexus 7 (2013) or Pixel C will see the update.  However, given that the Nexus 6 will see it starting very likely next week, it should be within that same time frame for these tablets.

The news of these updates coming to devices on Project Fi will be a welcome sound to users of Google’s MVNO.  Often times these are some of the last Nexus devices to be updated as Google takes their time making sure they don’t create issues for users.
