Netflix Finally Brings Offline Watching

It has been a long time requested feature of Netflix and it is finally here in the Android app.  The latest update to the streaming content provider now gives you the option to download television shows and movies so you can view them offline.

Let’s all take a moment to raise a glass to Netflix.

In the latest update to the app, version 4.12.0 for those keeping score at home, you now have a section “Available for Download”.  Here you will see all of the shows and movies that you can download to your phone or tablet so you can view them later.  You have two options for quality of the downloads:  Standard (720p) or High (1080p) and, as you would expect, the High quality downloads take up more storage on your device.

While the entire Netflix library is not available for offline viewing, you will find a good selection available.  Virtually all of the Netflix created content like Narcos, Orange is the New Black, The

  • The Fast and the Furious
  • Bad Boys II
  • Frasier
  • The Office
  • Madmen
  • Stranger Things

  • The Imitation Game
  • Breaking Bad
  • 30 Rock

This is by no means an exhaustive list so be sure to go to the Available for Download section of the app and check out what all is there.  It is pretty impressive for the first day of availability.

The new download feature is available at all subscription levels from Netflix but you have to have this latest 4.12 update before you can download to your device.  Netflix subscriptions range from $7.99 to $11.99 and can be purchased from within the app.
