Chrome 64 Comes to Hangouts Meet and Chrome for Meetings Hardware

If your organization has Hangouts Meet or Chrome for Meetings hardware, there is a new update rolling out to you.  The Chrome 64 update for these hardware solutions has been released, taking you up to build Stable Channel Chrome OS release but has the Huddly firmware which is updated to 1.2.10.

For those that aren’t familiar with these two solutions, they are physical hardware packaged solutions that run on Chrome OS designed for conferences and meeting rooms.  They are available to G Suite customers in the Education, Business and Enterprise versions of the platform.

As for what is improved, there are a number of security and bug fixes in this update as well as a handful of new features.  Some of those improvements include:

  • Significantly improved color accuracy
  • Improved white balance
  • Reduced sharpening halos
  • Increased image sharpness at lower zoom levels

It also contains improvements to the autozoom camera control including a range increase from 2.4m (8 ft) to 3.5m (11.5 ft), as well as an accuracy increase leveraging motion detection and a higher resolution overview stream (480p vs 320p used for face detection).

If you have one of the meeting solutions, you should get notified that the update is available to you over the course of the next few days.
