LineageOS Releases Android Oreo Build for The OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2 owners, the sun hasn’t quite set on your 2015 flagship.  Although OnePlus themselves have all-but dropped the phone, the developer community continues to bring out the best in the phone.  The latest is LineageOS who has released an Android Oreo based ROM for the phone.

LineageOS Build 15 is now out in the beta channel and while it is far from being ready for your daily driver, the takeaway here is that development is happening across a lot of devices, including the OnePlus 2.  There are a lot of things that don’t work, including the camera, in this alpha build.  So unless you are a developer willing to give feedback and test (or some sort of ROM masacist), I would recommend staying away from it for now.

OnePlus 2 Update Brings Updated Security Patch But Not Nougat

For those of you who have the OnePlus 2, there is a new update to OxygenOS rolling out starting today.  Before everyone gets excited, no, this is not an update to Android Nougat.  If you recall, OnePlus last month indicated that the OP2 would not be updated to Nougat despite earlier promises.  This update, however, does contain the June Android Security Update so it is still a great thing to see even if it is still on Marshmallow.

The update is OxygenOS 3.6.0 and primarily is an update to get the security update done but also add some other key fixes to the device.  The OTA is rolling out to a small number of OP2 owners today with a broader distribution later this week should all go well with the initial phase.

OnePlus Confirms The OnePlus2 Will Not Get Nougat

After months of continued positive statements about Android Nougat coming to the OnePlus 2, the company has announced that it will not be bringing Android 7.0 to the 2015 device.  The news comes from the site Android Authority where the Chinese company confirmed that the update won’t be coming due to changes in the software team structures since the release of the device.

The news isn’t a surprise but it is still very frustrating for OP2 owners who were told as late as May that the update would be coming to the device.  While the update to the OnePlus 3 and 3T is confirmed, it appears that OnePlus has taken the same stance as many other manufactures when it comes to updates:  One, maybe two major updates but that’s generally the end of the road.

OnePlus Rolls Out Marshmallow Based OxygenOS 3 for the OnePlus 2

After several months of beta testing, the OnePlus team has finally released their Android Marshmallow based OxygenOS 3.0.2 build.  Based on the forum post made by the OnePlus team, the OTA update is just now rolling out and it will be done incrementally so it could be up to 48 hours before your OP2 sees the update hit it.  Once it does, you will have a Marshmallow 6.0.2 base along with all the goodies that come with it and the ones that OnePlus has baked into OxygenOS.

OnePlus Drops The Price of The OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X

As has become the standard operating procedure for OEMs when they are about to release a new phone, OnePlus has dropped the price on both the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X on their site.  The OnePlus 3, the manufactures next “flagship killer” is expected to be launched next month which means you can pick up a great deal on either of these phones from 2015.  Right now the OnePlus 2 is available in Sandstone finish, has 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM and a 13MP rear camera for $299.  The 2 has a 5.5″ display and is powered by OnePlus’ own version of Android, OxygenOS.  Right now it is still based on Android Lollipop but the Marshmallow update is in final beta testing and should be released soon.

OnePlus 2 Makes Preview of Marshmallow Based OxygenOS Available

It has taken a long time but for those who have the OnePlus 2, your wait for Android Marshmallow is coming to an end.  OnePlus today announced that a preview of OxygenOS 3.0, the Marshmallow based OS running on the 2, is now available for download for members of the community who want to try it.  The preview means that it is still in beta and it is possible (likely) that you will run into issues if you decide to load it on your device.  If you use your OnePlus 2 as your daily driver, it may be best to wait until the software is released to the general public.

OnePlus Releases OxygenOS Update for OnePlus 2

OnePlus this morning announced that the latest update to their OxygenOS platform for the OnePlus 2 has been released.  The update brings the Android based OS up to version 2.2.1 for those keeping score at home and will be pushed to devices via an OTA update.  For those who may not be familiar with it, OxygenOS is OnePlus’ homespun version of Android with several customized tweaks to suite their flagship device.  The company has been moving away from Cyanogen, which they originally released with the OnePlus One, as they want more control over the Android experience.

OnePlus Drops The Price of The One Plus 2 to $349

OnePlus continues to push hard for your business with the removal of their invitation system to purchases their devices and now have dropped the price of their flagship.  The OnePlus 2, which the company released last year as their “flagship killer” device, has had a price drop of $40, taking it down to $349 for the 64GB model. The new price is effectively immediately and while a $40 isn’t huge, it certainly will make a difference for those who are considering picking one up.  It also makes it very competitive on price when you consider the amount of storage that the device has compared to others in the same price range.

This new price is a permanent drop so there is no special discount code or time in which you have to buy it.
