The Google Pixel C Tablet is no Longer Available from the Google Store

The Google Pixel C, the latest Android-based tablet from Google, has quietly been removed from the Google Store.  It signals the end of sales for the 2015 tablet that was met with mix results both from a sales and overall satisfaction perspective.  The 10.2″ tablet was released in September 2015 and shipped with Android Marshmallow.  It was upgraded last year to Nougat and the latest update to Oreo rolled out in October.

The Pixel C was power packed and from a specifications perspective, was hard to top.  But it was released at a time when many were beginning to question the need for a tablet at all.  Rumors at the time were pointing to Android apps coming to Chrome OS or, perhaps, a melding of the two (Project Andromeda) which made it curious about releasing a tablet at the time.  Indeed rumors persist that the Google Pixel C was actually slated to run Chrome OS but was switched at the last minute to Android.

October 2017 Android Security Update Patches Released

As expected with it being the first Monday of the month, Google has released the Android Security Update for October.  While there are still two patches that were released per the norm, they contain far fewer patches and fixes than normal.

The first updated, dated October 1st, is general Android fixes and contains a total of 8 patches and fixes, three of which are considered critical.  The second patch, dated October 5th, has 6 total fixes with 2 of them marked as critical.  As a reminder, the Google Pixel and Nexus devices will be getting the October 5th updates, which are cumulative to the 1st, and is aimed at hardware specific driver fixes for those devices.

LineageOS Adds The Pixel C and LG V20 Variants to The Portfolio

The team at LineageOS continues to shine with more new devices added to their supported device list this week.  The headliner of those new devices are the Google Pixel C tablet and the GSM unlocked and Sprint variants of the LG V20.  On the latter, with these two added, it means that the company now supports all US-based variants of the V20, a first for them.

The ROM builds for the Pixel C will be available starting on Monday, June 5th while the other ROMs for the other devices are now available.  The new devices include the BQ Aquaris U Plus and the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus while owners of the Motorola Photon Q and eEco Le Max 2 are now on the Android Nougat based 14.1 train.
