April Android Security Update Addresses Multiple Critical Issues

The April security update for Android was announced last week along with the factory images of the new build being available.  For most Nexus device users, the OTA updates will start rolling out this week if you are not carrier locked.  If you are, it could be a few more weeks after that.  Along with the images, Google has released the Security Bulletin for the update too and it has a wealth of information on what was fixed in the update.

For those who use Google Photos, the web-based version of the service has received two much needed improvements.  The first are keyboard shortcuts to commonly accessed features of the service.  This is a big deal as it pulls Photos inline with virtually all of the other Google web-based services when it comes to quick ways to access features to the service.  To see the new shortcuts, just type SHIFT+? on your Windows PC or Mac and you will get a pop-up that shows you the shortcuts available.

Yes, Emoji Search In Google Photos Really Does Work

You may have seen some posts today around searching with an Emoji in Google Photos on Android.  Although it is April Fools day, the fact is that this type of searching actually really works – today at least.  Google is infamous for their elaborate and often high number of jokes on April 1st each year and when this one started up late last night, many (me included) dismissed it as a joke.  Then I tried it and was shocked that it actually worked.

If you remember Monday of this week, there was a minor update to the Chrome browser for Windows, Mac and Linux that rolled out.  It was the second month in a row that a mid-stream update had happened on the browser and it was specifically aimed at addressing some security flaws.  Now, as expected, the updated version of Chrome OS has started to roll out to devices with that same update.  The version you are looking for is build 49.0.2623.111 (Platform version: 7834.66.0/7834.67.0) and it is for all Chrome devices.
