Microsoft has released a big update to Outlook for Android, bringing substantially improved email composition capability to the app. The update, version 1.2.8 for those keeping score at home, also bring improved performance and other minor update to give a better user experience with the app. The biggest edition though is the improved email composition where you can now attach files and send users your availability or create an invitation from the app while in email. These updates will make the app far easier to use especially those who use corporate Exchange accounts.
The other big improvement in this update to Outlook for Android is the much improved folder navigation in the app. If you use folders in email then you know in the previous update it was all-but broken. That is fixed now and in fact Microsoft has returned the Spam/Junk folders to the app. Now you can actually navigate your mail folders and they are in the proper order and sub-folder order.
Lastly, there are huge steps in the performance of the app. In my testing this morning, Outlook for Android loads and runs faster and far smoother than the previous update. Switching between Email, Calendar and People is seamless and snappy with far less lag.
While this update to Outlook for Android is a “dot” update, it is a pretty major one in my book. All of the performance improvements along with the new email tools make this a must-have for those who rely heavily on email in their day-to-day workflow on their Android tablet or phone.
The app is free and available now in the Play Store.
