Google Hangouts Website Now Available

Last week I told you about the all new Google Hangouts 4.0 that was released for Android as well as iOS (with a few less functions).  If you haven’t tried it out, do yourself a favor.  This is not the old Hangouts.  It’s far smoother an experience and generally a much nicer experience.  As part of that release, Google has quietly released a Google Hangouts website that allows you to use your browser to be your Hangouts app.  Like the apps for the mobile devices, it’s buttery smooth and beautifully designed.

You can get to the new Google Hangouts website by navigating to https://hangouts.google.com.  All of your Hangouts activity will be there for you to see once you sign in just like you would have on your Android phone or tablet.  In many ways it is similar to a Chrome extension in its behavior but the site itself is beautifully designed and very easy to navigate.  From the site you can do

Google Hangouts on The Web

Google Hangouts on The Web

voice, video or text messages to others on Hangouts.

If you have used Google Hangouts on your Android phone or tablet then you are not going to find anything really new here.  It’s all about the web based experience that Google has brought to users so if you are at your PC, Mac or Chromebook, you don’t necessarily have to pick up your mobile to use Hangouts.

Give it a try and see what you think.  It’s free!
