Google Continues Menu Improvement Efforts in Google Docs

Google’s continuing efforts to improve menus within the G Suite apps has brought a new update once again to users.  This is the fourth month in a row that one of the G Suite apps has had a menu update with this month’s efforts focusing on Google Docs and Google Slides

Functionally across all of these changes, Google hasn’t changed much.  Rather, this is an effort to more clearly define what a feature does and, in some case, move the feature to another menu within Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides where it makes more sense to have it.  The updates to Docs and Slides are along those lines.

For Google Slides, here is the rundown of changes:

  • The Table menu will be removed. Options to add or remove a table will be in the Insert menu. Options to format tables will be in the Format menu.
  • In the Slide menu, four options for moving slides will be moved to a new “Move” submenu.
  • In the Arrange menu, “Align horizontally” and “Align vertically” will be moved into a new “Align” submenu.

For Google Docs, here are the changes rolling out:

  • In the toolbar, text color and highlight color will be split into separate controls for each.
  • In the toolbar, a new option will be added to “Insert image”
  • The Table menu will be removed. Options to add or remove a table will be in the Insert menu. Options to format tables will be in the Format menu.

Across all of the apps, the insert menu is being reordered for clarity.

All of these new menu changes are starting to roll out now but it could be up to two weeks before it gets to everyone’s domain or account.
