Today’s Deal – Essential Phone Down to $599 on Amazon

Today’s Deal is on the Essential Phone, the PH-1.  As readers will know, this is the first phone from Andy Rubin’s company and after a few software updates that have come out for it, the PH-1 has proven to be a solid performer.  Right now you can pick on up for $599 on Amazon, a savings of $100.  That price is for either the Black Moon or Pure White colors.

The Essential Phone has a titanium body with a ceramic back, a 5.7″ 2560 x 1320 Quad-HD display, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage built-in.  It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.  This octa-core processor has four cores running at 2.45GHz and the remaining four clocked at 1.9GHz.

Essential PH-1 Confirmed to Get Android Oreo Update

For most who follow the Android community, this will fall under the “duh” category but it is still good to have confirmation.  Essential’s company Twitter posted last night that the Essential PH-1 will be getting updated to Android Oreo “in the next couple of months”.

The news certainly isn’t a surprise and reading between the lines, it looks like the update to Oreo could come at some point before year’s end. That would be great to see and would fall in line with the company’s commitment to rolling out updates quickly – both major and minor updates.

Sprint To Start Selling The Essential PH-1 Starting Today

For readers who are on Sprint and wanted to pick up the new Essential PH-1, today’s a good day.  Starting today, you can pick up the PH-1 from the carrier both online and in stores.  It will mark a turning point for availability of the phone as shipping from Essential has been slow and it has hasn’t even started from Amazon yet.

Sprint has a promotion running on their Sprint Flex Lease scheme.  Effectively you save 50% off the cost of the phone if you order now which drops the price of the phone to $14.58 per month for 12 months.  Using this program, you save about $260 according to the carrier. Want to buy it outright?  No problem.  You can do that from Sprint for $699.99.

Download the Essential Phone Wallpapers

Last week, the Essential Phone, the PH-1, became available for both those who had pre-ordered as well as those who want to pick one up.  The unlocked variant of the phone is $699 through the Essentials site.  You can also purchase it through Amazon for the same price but orders placed at the online retailer won’t ship until September 1st.

While you are waiting for your PH-1 to arrive, you can at least have the benefit of the stock wallpapers that come with the phone on your current device.  Over on the wallpaper page, I’ve added all six of the default wallpapers for you to freely download and use on your devices.  I’ve also added them to this post after the break so those who want to move along can do so without having to download them.

The six wallpapers are a mix of scenic views and abstract images, all of which look great.

Essential PH-1 Now Available to Order

After pre-order customers were notified yesterday that shipping would happen within a week, the Essential PH-1 is now available from Sprint, Best Buy and Amazon to purchase.  The unlocked variant of the phone is $699 through the Essentials site.  You can also purchase it through Amazon for the same price but orders placed at the online retailer won’t ship until September 1st.

Carriers are in the mix too.  Sprint is offering the PH-1 at a substantial discount, some $250 off, if you purchase it through them and sign up for service.  For those looking for payment options, if you order it through the carrier now, the price is a mere $15 per month for 18 months on the phone.

The Essential PH-1 has a titanium body with a ceramic back, a 5.7″ 2560 x 1320 Quad-HD display, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage built-in.  It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.  This octa-core processor has four cores running at 2.45GHz and the remaining four clocked at 1.9GHz.

Essential PH-1 Pre-Orders to Start Shipping Within A Week

Good news this morning for those of you who pre-ordered the Essential PH-1.  Your device should be shipping to you over the course of the next seven days according to the company.  It follows delays in shipping as the Andy Rubin’s founded company had expected to ship the phones in July.

The camera configuration on the back of the PH-1 is becoming somewhat of the standard.  It is a dual-camera setup with a 13MP RGB camera coupled with a 13MP monochrome camera.  It is has a f/1.85 aperture and hybrid autofocus (laser and phase detection).  It is capable of shooting up to 4K video.  The front facing 8MP camera is a fixed focus f/2.2 shooter that can also shoot 4K video.

Essential PH-1 To Be Carrier Exclusive to Sprint

While the new Essential PH-1 won’t start shipping until the end of this month, we do know who the carrier deal is going to be with on the company’s first device.  Sprint, according to USA Today, will be the exclusive carrier of the device here in the United States.  The phone is going to receive prominent displays within Sprint stores nationally although it was not announced just how long the exclusive relationship would be on the new phone.

The exclusive on the PH-1 is not the first for Sprint as they are also the exclusive carrier on the HTC U11.
