Samsung Galaxy Note8 Down to $749 on Amazon, $200 Off

If you have been wanting to get your hands on a Samsung Galaxy Note8, today is your day.  Amazon has dropped the price of the 6.3″ phablet by a whopping $200.  Now you can get it with 64GB of storage for $749 in either the Midnight Black or Orchid Gray colors.  This is by far the lowest price so far on the Note8.

For those that don’t recall, the Galaxy Note8 is a  6.3″ device that renders at 1440 x 2560 resolution with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.  Physically it is 162.5 x 74.6 x 8.6mm and weighs 195g.  In old money, that’s 6.39 x 2.9 x .34 inches and a weight of 6.87 ounces.   It is powered by the Snapdragon 835 SocC and has an eye watering 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.  That storage can be expanded up to 2TB thanks to the MicroSD slot.

T-Mobile Releases The May Android Security Update for The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note8 Lineup

Good news this morning for readers who have the Samsung Galaxy S8 or one of the Galaxy Note8 phones on T-Mobile.  The May Android Security Update patches for these devices is now rolling out from the carrier.  Samsung isn’t exactly known for getting updates out fast so it is certainly positive that the company has got the May patches ready and T-Mobile is comfortable enough with them to drop them to customers.

For the Galaxy S8, you are looking for firmware G950USQS3CRE2 while for the S8+, you are getting G955USQS3CRE2.  For those of you who have the Galaxy Note8, firmware N950USQU4CRE1 is what you will be getting once the update rolls out to your phone.

T-Mobile Beings Rolling Out Their Oreo Update to The Galaxy Note8

Following AT&T, Sprint & Verizon, T-Mobile has now released their Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 for customers on their network.  The news came from Desmond Smith, T-Mobile’s product evangelist, via Twitter late last night.

With the update just now being released, it is going to take a few days before it gets to everyone’s Galaxy Note8 in the wild.

Galaxy Note8 on AT&T Getting Updated to Android Oreo Today

Good news this morning for Samsung Galaxy Note8 owners on AT&T.  Your Android Oreo update is now rolling out.  The 1.4GB update is build N950USQU3CRC2 for those keeping score at home and has been released by the carrier.  That means devices will start getting updates as soon as today.

And let’s take a moment to give AT&T a bit of credit.  They are notoriously slow at getting updates out to their customers but, in the case of the Note8, they were first.  They beat out Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.  Kudos AT&T!

Android Oreo Begins Rolling Out to The Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note8

Samsung started their Android Oreo updates slowly but over the course of the past few weeks, have been trying to catch up in a hurry.  The latest example is the Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy Note8.  It has begun rolling out to the unlocked variant of the phablet in Europe.

The update is build N950FXXU3CRC1 and it is just over 1.5GB in size.  It brings the Oreo update of course but also brings the March Android Security Update patch along with it.

Samsung Galaxy Note8 on Verizon Update Brings the January Android Security Update Patch

Verizon has released an update to the Samsung Galaxy Note8 on their network, bringing some bug fixes to the device as well as the January 2018 Android Security Update patch.  The new firmware build is version NMF26X.N950USQU3BRA5 for those keeping score at home.

With the January Android Security Update included in this update, it means that the Verizon variant of the Note8 is protected against the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities which, if for no other reason, is why owners of the phablet should get this update as soon as possible.  The update also fixes a bug where the screen would freeze during incoming calls, fixes a force closed bug when unlocking the device, and another force closed issue when the method of unlocking for the device was attempted to be changed.

Samsung to Begin Rolling Out Android Oreo Update Next Year

It looks like owners of the latest Samsung Galaxy devices have a bit of a wait before they see the Android Oreo update.  The company’s Turkish site has posted that the testing of the new Oreo build has begun and that it will begin rolling out next year.

Our work on our pilot model for Android 8.0 (Oreo) has begun. We aim to present the new operating system to you at the beginning of the new year.

The problem, of course, is when exactly it will be in the new year but this all-but confirms that the update won’t hit in 2017.  Samsung has been very quiet about a timeline on when the update will roll out and this is the only confirmation that has been seen to this point.

If it is indeed 2018 before the Galaxy S8 phones and the Note8 see Oreo, it will once again make Samsung one of the last of the major OEMs to get the update out to their current devices.  Huawei, OnePlus, LG, Sony, HTC and Moto have all confirmed that at least some of their devices will get the update prior to the end of the year.
