Samsung to Produce 12.5m Galaxy S8 Variants By The End of April

With the announcement and launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 coming on March 29th, at the current rate of leaks, there will be little mystery left on new flagship from the Korean manufacture.  It seems daily there are leaked images, leaked component details and other tidbits.  But one interesting report has come from ETNews in Korea about the production levels of the new Galaxy S8 and S8+.  From the report, it is expected that Samsung will be producing in the neighborhood of 12.5m units in March and April to meet the expected demands when the phone goes on sale and pre-orders are filled at the end of April.  To put that into perspective, Samsung sold 10m units for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge last year with 20 days of release.  Samsung, it seems, wants to be prepared.

Breaking it down further, the 5.8″ Galaxy S8 will be 7.1 million according to ETNews while the larger 6.2″ S8+ will have around 5.4 million in available supplies at the time of release.

Android Nougat Update Rolling Out to Samsung Galaxy S7 on Rogers and Telus in Canada

Good news this morning for those in Canada who have the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge on either Rogers or Telus.  The two carriers have begun the process of rolling out the Android Nougat 7.0 update to those devices.  The update comes a few days later than the majority of carriers in Canada started the update roll out and follows the release of the update here in the United States.  By all indications, the update is virtually identical to the update that rolled out to other Canadian and US carriers.  That is, it is based on Nougat 7.0 and has the February 2017 Android Security Update.

The update for the phones is sizable at just over 1GB so you will certainly want to make sure you are on a Wi-Fi connection to download it.  Once the update is downloaded, you can expect the install to take 15-20 minutes and after the reboot is complete, you will be on Nougat.

LineageOS Continue to Expand with Multiple Samsung Device Supported

LineageOS is making up for lost time and doing it fast.  The rise of the platform out of the CyanogenMod project has been very impressive and got even more so today.  Multiple Samsung devices, both phones and tablets, have been added to the supported devices for the platform.  The new build is in the 14.1 train of the platform which is based on Android Nougat.

As for which Samsung devices were added, the list is pretty comprehensive.  The Galaxy S7 (G930F), S7 Edge (G935F) are probably the banner models that will catch everyones attention.  But the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7″ was also added, both the Wi-FI and the LTE variants.  The Note 7 Tablet was updated to the 14.1 train too.

Verizon Finally Brings Android Nougat Update to The Galaxy S7 Lineup

Good news this morning for Verizon customers using the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge – Android Nougat is finally coming your way.  The update is being released today and you are looking for build  NRD90M.G930VVRU4BQA2 for the Galaxy S7 while the S7 Edge is getting build NRD90M.G935VVRU4BQA2.  Both updates come in at just over 1GB in size so you will want to make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to download the update for your phone.  Once you have it downloaded, the install process should take about 30 minutes all-in.

By now readers will know what comes with Nougat so I won’t bore you with the details once again.  If you aren’t clear on what Nougat brings, check out my review.  As for this particular update, you aren’t going to find much different than the Galaxy S7 updates that have been on T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.  Essentially the updates are the same with very minor tweaks between them for each carrier.  That, frankly, is good in that you don’t have a different experience just because you are on a different carrier.

Sprint Has Released Android Nougat for The Galaxy S7 Lineup

Good news Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users on Sprint, Android Nougat is rolling your way.  Joining AT&T and T-Mobile, Sprint has released their stable Nougat 7.0 build for the two Samsung flagship devices, starting with those who were in their beta program first.  Those in the program will get a small update (sub-200MB) to update to the stable version while those of you who get it outright, you are looking at a 1.2GB update from Marshmallow.  The update will take a few days to get to everyone of course as these things tend to be phased when the carriers roll out these big updates.

For those curious, a couple of key things to keep in mind on this update.  First, it is Android Nougat 7.0, just like the updates from the other carriers.  It does appear to have the February 2017 Android Security Update but that’s yet to be confirmed by Sprint (they haven’t updated their support page entirely with details).  If that is true, it would be the same as the other carriers.  Further, it is not 100% clear if Sprint has added any additional apps or services to the S7 or S7 Edge but that should become a bit more clear once the support page is updated.
