6Tag for Windows Phone Gets Yet Another Update

It may be time for me to create a “This Week in 6Tag Updates” section of the site.

Once again developer Rudy Huyn has dropped another update to the popular Instagram app for Windows Phone, this time it increments up to version 4.3 for those keeping score at home.  This update, like the 4.2 update last week, brings several new features both from a photo sharing perspective as well as the user experience.  It’s certainly worth the upgrade and it is available now in the Windows Phone store.

Microsoft Updates The Office for Windows 10 Preview Apps

Microsoft has released an update to the various Office for Windows 10 apps today as they prepare the preview apps for wider distribution.  Word, Excel and PowerPoint all have received updated this morning, mostly focused on bug fixes and performance improvements.  If you are running the Office for Windows 10 preview app then you should go to the Windows Store beta in Windows 10 and get the updates.

The updates come with it widely expected that the next release of Windows 10 for Phone this week to contain the preview apps.  The last update to the Technical Preview not only did not have the new Office for Windows 10 apps but it actually killed off the existing Office hub for Windows Phone.  Hopefully that gets sorted this week.

OpenTable for Android Updated with Improved Google Maps Integration

OpenTable has updated their app for Android today, bringing significantly improved integration with Google Maps.  The update to OpenTable for Android, version 4.4.2.1170 for those keeping score at home, is available now in the Google Play store.  It is designed for both Android phones and tablets. For those not familar with OpenTable, it is a service-meets-app that allows you to find restaurants near you and make bookings at them for that day or in the future.  Each time you dine you get points which can be redeemed for discounts at any restaurant who is in the OpenTable program.  I have used the app for years and it is a great way to find a place to eat if you are not familiar with the city you happen to be visiting or even at home to get a table at that popular restaurant.

OneDrive for Windows Phone Update Brings Transparent Live Tile

The OneDrive team has had a busy day today.  Earlier this morning they released an update to OneDrive for Android with several new features and fixes and tonight we see a new OneDrive for Windows Phone version now available.  The update, version 4.11.0.0 for those keeping score at home, brings mostly bug fixes and improvements but also brings a Transparent Live Tile to the app.  I personally think that transparent Live tiles are one of the things that seperates Windows Phone from a user experience perspective than iOS or Android as it allow you to make your device more personal.  OneDrive now is offers this for those who like it which is great to see.
