It has been a couple of months since the last Age of Empires Castle Siege update but today Microsoft Studios made up for lost time.  Today they have issued an update for the popular tower-defense style game for both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1.  The update, version 1.6.0.14 is available now in their respective Windows and Windows Phone Stores and both are a hefty update with a lot of new features and a boatload of bug fixes.

It has been anticipated for a while now but Gameloft has finally release Age of Sparta for Windows Phone and Windows.  The new game puts you in charge of the Greek army as you wage war against Xerxes and the Persians.  Using the powers at your disposal and with the help of the Greek Gods, you rebuild your city to get resources and an army to mount your campaign.  You can of course also align yourself with other players to form a bigger army and battle rivals.

While the game concept is not unique, Age of Sparta does have some outstanding characters and graphics as you play.  As most readers will know, I’m a big fan of Age of Empires Castle Siege and I like these top down, world building type of games.  This one fits the bill and brings a unique, historical twist to what could be a tired format for some.  Given that Age of Sparta is free, it is worth a try.

Microsoft Studios has released another major update to the popular game Age of Empires Castle Siege for Windows and Windows Phone.  The update, version 1.0.4.371 for those keeping score at home, brings a huge number of game improvements, bug fixes and expanded content for those who have made it to Age 8 in the game.  I reviewed Age of Empires Castle Siege when it was first released and the game has had several big updates since that review.  While the fundamentals of the game haven’t changed – advance your civilization and protect it against attacking hordes – the game has certainly improved in overall stability and features.

There are some classic games out there that many of us grew up playing at one time or another.  Bingo is likely one of those games, be it at home with family or in a bingo parlor.  While often associated with seniors, Bingo is a fun game and can be quite competitive.  Microsoft has captured that well in their Microsoft Bingo app.  This universal app for all Windows platforms gives you both that competitive nature of the game along with giving you awards thanks to Xbox Live integration and frankly it has proven to be hours of fun as I’ve prepared this review.  Whether you like the game or not, here is my review of Microsoft Bingo, a fun classic for your Windows devices that even casual players can enjoy for free.

One of the newer games in the Angry Birds franchise has hit Windows Phone and it is free.  Angry Birds Stella for Windows Phone allows you to join Stella (the pink bird) and her comrades as she battles the bad princess and her piggies in over 120 levels of fun.  Now if you know me, you know I have a serious Angry Birds addiction and Angry Birds Stella presents a whole new set of challenges even for seasoned players.
