Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Coming To AT&T This Week

AT&T has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be coming to the carrier this week on June 12th.  For those who aren’t familiar, the Active is a more durable version of the Galaxy S6 lineup and follows in the footsteps of the Galaxy S5 Active from last year.  This new, updated version sports dust and water resistant design (but not waterproof) for those who are on the go.  The Galaxy S6 Active sports some nice features including a 5.1″ HD AMOLED display, a 3500 mAh battery for all day performance and a 16MP rear facing camera.

Lollipop 5.1 Coming To The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge This Summer

Canadian carrier Rodgers is reporting that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be receiving the Lollipop 5.1 update later this summer.  In a post on Android Central today, the carrier is slating the June time frame for the release of the update which will bring several new features including a guest mode and the ability to shoot photos in RAW format.

For those scratching their heads, yes, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge did ship with Lollipop but it was the 5.0 version.  The 5.1 update, in addition to the features I mentioned, brings other substantial improvements to the platform including better security and battery performance.

Microsoft and Samsung Expand Relationship to Pre-Install Office Apps on Android Tablets

Building on the announcements that they made at Mobile World Congress, Microsoft and Samsung today have announced a furthering of their relationship which will include the pre-install of Microsoft Office apps on Samsung Android-based tablets.  The announcement, while not a complete surprise, is good news for Samsung devices users as they will get these apps and the impact of this is both for consumers and businesses.  While I have been quite critical of how Google themselves had played with Microsoft, it is clear that Samsung sees the value of a relationship between the two companies even after a contentious legal battle.  While I’m not sure this is all kiss-and-make-up, it certainly is a step in the right direction.
