Lumia 830 on AT&T Now Free with a Fitbit Flex on Contract

At the Microsoft Store or on Amazon while supplies last you can pick up a great deal on the Lumia 830 Windows Phone on AT&T.  If you sign up for a new 2-year contract or are an existing customer and want to upgrade, you can get the Lumia 830 plus a Fitbit Flex all for free.  Keep in mind that just last week this was $99 and the Fitbit Flex (which has been free with the 830 since November of last year) is an additional $90 value.  Basically you walk out of the online store with a great phone that at one point was $199 on contract for free.  For those of you who don’t want to get a new contract and would rather buy the device outright, you can do that too at the new low price of $399 which is $50 off the regular price.  Oh, and you still get the Fitbit Flex.

myAT&T App For Windows Phone Now Shows Rollover Data

Last month the US carrier AT&T announced a new Rollover Data plan for all of their existing customers.  The plan basically gives you the unused data from your last month and rolls those gigabytes over to the current month.  The plan started taking effect for customers on January 25, 2014 and if your billing cycle has happened since then, you have Rollover Data on your account.  By-the-way, there is no sign up process for this features.  It is for every AT&T customer who has a qualifying plan which is all of the monthly billing plans.

As part of that announcement, AT&T indicated that the myAT&T app for Windows Phone, iOS and Android would all be updated to reflect this rollover data.  That is now in the app which you can download for free from the Windows Phone Store.

Unlocking Your Mobile is Easier Starting Today

Starting today, unlocking your paid for Windows Phone or other mobile device just became easier.  The major carriers in the United States – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular – have all voluntarily committed to CTIA consumer standards set forth back in 2013.  The Consumer Code for Wireless Service was set out by the CTIA and it outlines guidelines for carriers when it comes to consumer rights and services.  These five carriers along with Bluegrass Cellular and Cellcom all agreed to abide by these guidelines and a key part of them is unlocking of devices.

Lumia 635 on AT&T With No Contract – $69 at The Microsoft Store

If you have been on the fence about picking up a Lumia 635 on the AT&T network, now is the time to jump.  At the Microsoft Store you can pick one up for only $69 and there is no contract commitment required from AT&T.  It’s a great deal on a great little Windows Phone. I reviewed the Lumia 635 when it was first released and it is still one of my favorite devices.  It’s small, lightweight and has quite a bit of power for an entry level phone.

Nokia Lumia 635

Now the Microsoft Lumia 635

The Lumia 635 has been one of the better selling devices for Microsoft and has always been at a great price point.  Throughout most of the holidays it was between $69-99 and was even as low as $39 on Black Friday.  Still, at $69 this is a great phone even for daily use but certainly could fit the role of a back up phone or a media player device.

Just as a reminder, here are the highlights on the specs of the Lumia 635:

  • 4.5-inch display
  • 5MP camera with 720p HD video
  • 8GB storage / microSD 128GB
  • Windows Phone 8.1

There is no word on when this price will end (it has been $99 for most of this year) or if this is a new permanent price for the phone.  Regardless, get one now while the price is this low.

Don’t forget that you can also get the Lumia 635 accessory bundle for $60, a savings of $38 if you were to buy all of the contents separately.  That bundle includes a case of your choice (selected cases), a screen protector, and a Nokia DC-21 portable battery charger

AT&T Has Indicated Lumia Denim is Coming “Soon” to Customers

AT&T has posted on Twitter that customers can expect to see the Lumia Denim update for devices on their network “soon”.  The Tweet was a reply to long time Windows Platform Development MVP Ginny Caughey who somewhat sarcastically Tweeted that she would likely see Windows 10 on her Lumia 1520 before Lumia Denim was released.  AT&T apparently was paying attention and replied with this Tweet:

It is certainly encouraging to hear that AT&T is looking to release Lumia Denim on the Lumia devices on their network but “soon” is a word that Windows Phone users have heard all too often. Still, we are likely talking weeks now instead of months.

As a reminder, you can read my Guide to Lumia Denim and my Lumia Denim Rollout Guide for more detailed information on the release and the rollout process.

AT&T Bringing Rollover Data To Customers Starting January 25th

In what is likely a direct response to T-Mobile’s Data Stash announcement in December, AT&T has announced that starting January 25th their customers will have Rollover Data on their data plans.  It is a big win for AT&T customers as now they will be able to keep their unused data each month and roll it over to the next.  Even better, you will be able to track your Rollover data through the myAT&T app.

MyAT&T App for Windows Phone Updated

Lumia 1520 Now $99 with 2-Year Contract on AT&T

While this years Christmas season sales focus from Microsoft has been on the mid-to-low end of the market, that doesn’t mean that some great deals can’t be found on the high end devices as well.  The best deal by far remains on the Lumia 635 at only $99 without a contract but if you want to get the flagship Lumia 1520, you can do it for $99 as well on a 2-year contract.  If you don’t want to do the contract, no problem.  You can get it outright for $526, down from the $589 price before the holidays.
