Today’s Deal – BLU Life One X2 with 4GB Ram and 64GB Storage for $199

Today’s Deal is on the powerful BLU Life One X2, a solid 5.2″ Android phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage built in.  Right now you can pick one up either in Grey or in Rose Gold for $199 on Amazon.  The phone is very well equipped for one in this price range, featuring a 5.2″ curved glass Full HD display and is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor running at 1.4GHz.  As mentioned, it has 4GB of RAM which is almost unheard of in the sub-$200 range as is the 64GB of built-in storage.  That storage can be expanded an additional 64GB thanks to the MicroSD slot.

Camera wise, the BLU Life One X2 has a 16MP Phase Detection Auto Focus shooter while the front camera is an 8MP unit that has a front facing flash for improved selfie quality.

As with other deals I post on, the Life One X2 is sold unlocked and works with GSM carriers.  If you are on Sprint or Verizon, sadly it won’t work for you.  Here are the GSM frequencies and LTE bands in this phone:

  • 4G HSPA+ (850/1700/1900/2100)
  • LTE (2/4/7/12/17)

Finally, the Life One X2 is running Android Marshmallow so you are getting a solid and secure Android build on the phone.  One thing to note is that BLU is no clear on when or if there will be a Nougat update for this phone so if that is a big deal to you, be aware.

To get all the details or to order your BLU Life One X2 in Grey or Rose Gold, head over to Amazon.

Today’s Deal – AUKEY AMP USB-C and 4-Port USB Charger for $21

Today’s Deal is on another great charging product from AUKEY.  Today you can pick up the AUKEY Amp USB charger which has two USB-C ports and four USB-A ports for $21.99 on Amazon.  That’s a savings of 37% off the normal $34.99 price.  This is a great charger for those who have a Nexus 5x, Nexus 6P, Pixel C or one of the new Pixel phones as you can charge those devices USB-C to USB-C for faster charging.  All your other devices can use the USB-A ports, two of which are Quick Charge 2.0 compatible.

AUKEY has built in technology on this charger to optimize the charging of your devices without excessive current, overheating and overcharging.  Excessive current and overcharging are the number one challenges when it comes to Lithium-Ion batteries and can damage them or worse, cause them to catch fire.  AUKEY protects against those challenges with their AiPower technology.

The Amp USB charger is designed to sit on your desk so it isn’t necessarily a travel charger.  It comes with a 3′ USB-C to USB-C cable, a two year warranty against defects.  If you have mixed devices when it comes to charging cables, Amp Charger could be the right one for you.

To order yours or to get more information, head over to the AUKEY Amp USB charger page on Amazon.  If you are an Amazon Prime customer, shipping on this accessory is free too.

Today’s Deal – Microsoft Office 365 Home for $85

Today’s Deal over at Amazon is on the Microsoft Office 365 Home subscription.  Normally $99.99, it is down to $84.99 at the online retailer.  The Home edition of Office 365 allows you to install the Office suite of apps – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote – on up to 5 PCs or Mac (any combination) and also comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage for your files and photos.  That 1TB of storage applies to all users on the subscription so each will get 1TB.  It’s a pretty sweet deal on the flagship Office offering from Microsoft.

If you already have a subscription, you can still take advantage of this deal.  When you get the subscription card shipped to you, just go to your Office account and add it to your existing subscription. This will just push out your renewal date another year.

Add to this, with the Home subscription, you get full access to the Android and iOS versions of the Office apps.  These apps are free on both platforms but to get all of the features, you have to have a subscription.

Today’s Deal is on the physical subscription card being shipped to you (it’s Prime eligible so it won’t cost you anything if you are a member) and not on the download version.  That version is still $99.

Lenovo Smart Assistant Announced at CES

CES 2017 kicks off today and the announcements of new products and devices are already starting.  Lenovo announced the Amazon Alexa powered Lenovo Smart Assistant today, a competitor to Amazon Echo and Google Home.  The cylinder shaped device looks somewhat similar to the Echo but has a bit more aesthetic appeal.  The top half of it is white with a 360-degree microphone and speaker combination on the top of it.  The bottom half is more similar to Google home with the woven overlay that is available in several colors.

The Lenovo Smart Assistant is powered by the Intel Celeron N3060 process, has one 5w speaker and one 10w speaker for audio.

Today’s Deal – AUKEY USB-C Cable 5 Pack for $15

Today’s Deal over at Amazon is on a 5-pack of AUKEY USB-C cables for $14.99.  The pack contains one 1′ cable, three 3′ cables, and one 6′ cable so you will have plenty of options for getting your phone charged in various locations.  Equally as important, on the USB-A side, they are USB 3.0 standard.  That means you will get up to 5GB/sec of transfer speed.  That makes this particular deal especially good given most of the time these cables are the slower USB 2.0 standard.

These cables from AUKEY are compatible with any USB-C device:  Phones, Tablets and MacBooks which have the port.  As you likely know, USB-C is reversible so it doesn’t matter how you insert the cable into your device, it works and charges your devices or can transfer data between them.

Today’s Deal – Nextbit Robin in Mint Down to $149

Over at Amazon you can still pick up the Nextbit Robin for $149.   I reviewed the Robin a few months ago and at the time I said it was a pretty good deal at $299.  At $149, it is one of the best deals on a phone with these specs out there right now.  Over the holidays the phone was $169 on Amazon so this price drop makes it the lowest price the phone has ever been available.

For those that don’t recall, the Nextbit Robin has some great features and offers a unique device-meets-cloud storage solution.  It has 32GB of onboard storage merged with 100 GB online storage, so you always have the space you need. Robin seamlessly backs up your apps and photos, intelligently archives the stuff you’re not using, and easily restores items when you need them.  The idea is that you never run out of space.  Those less used apps are backed up into the cloud but then are instantly available when you want them.  You’ll know an app has been backed up into the cloud as it will be grey on your Robin.  You can read my review of the Robin to see all my thoughts on this great little phone.  I also think it is perhaps one of the most underrated phones of 2016.

Today’s Deal – Huawei Honor 8 $100 Off at Amazon

Today’s Deal is a great deal on one of the top phones for 2016.  The Honor 8 is being sold unlocked so it will work with any GSM carrier here in the US like AT&T and T-Mobile.  It has a 2.3GHz octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage (expandable up to 256GB with the MicroSD slot).  The Honor 8 has a 5.2″ display, fingerprint scanner and a 12MP dual-camera rear shooter. Normally the Honor 8 is $399.99 but today it is down to $289 for the 32GB model while the 64GB model is normally $449.99 and it is down to $348.

Amazon Prime Video Takes On Netflix With Global Expansion

Amazon has set their sights on Netflix as the global expansion of streaming content providers continues.  Today the company announced that Amazon Prime Video is available in over 200 countries, up from 130 countries from the expansion earlier this year, and for several countries the new service is no additional cost to existing Amazon Prime memberships.  Like Netflix, Amazon has been pushing hard to make original content, the most well know of these currently being The Grand Tour, and with this expansion, more people will be able to see the show (legally).

For Prime customers in Belgium, Canada, France, India, Italy and Spain, you can start watching Amazon content through the Prime Video app at no cost today.  You just need to have the Prime Video app installed on your devices but you can also watch on primevideo.com if you want to view content in your browser.  For other countries, the add-on subscription will be $2.99 for the first six months then going up to $5.99 thereafter.
