The Asus ZenFone 5Z Blatantly Copies The iPhone X – Notch and All

Another flagship phone was announced today at Mobile World Congress and stop me if you have seen it before – because if you’ve seen an iPhone X, you’ve essentially seen the Asus ZenFone 5Z.

The latest flagship in a trio of phones announced today by Asus is as blatant a copy of the Apple flagship as you will find but that may not be all that bad.  THe ZenFone 5Z isn’t a cheap knock-off.  It is a flagship with flagship specs.  The 6.2″ FullHD IPS display renders at 1080 x 2246 pixels and is a 18.5:9 ratio.  That gives you a very comfortable ~402 ppi density.  It is powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC which is coupled with the Adreno 630 GPU.  It has 4GB of RAM and comes standard with 64GB of storage which can be expanded thanks to the MicroSD slot.  Battery wise, you have a 3300mAh battery.

ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 Now Available With Intel m7 Processor

After a long delay and well after the Intel m3 and m5 variants were released, ASUS has finally put forth the m7 model of the Chromebook Flip C302.  Identical in every way to the m3 and m5 models, this new model sports the Intel m7 6Y75  processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 16GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage.

ASUS is aiming this variant of the Chromebook Flip at the power user, clearly, as 16GB of RAM is almost unheard of in a Chromebook.  It is debatable if it is needed but it is there nevertheless.  As far as price, this m7 variant is $929 and is available through Amazon.

ASUS ZenFone 3 Update to Android Oreo Released

The ASUS ZenFone 3 is the latest ASUS phone to start getting its update to Android Oreo.  The update was released yesterday and should be making its way to owners as an OTA update over the course of the next few days.  The new firmware build is version 15.0410.1712.31 for those keeping score at home.

The update brings all of the things that you expect from Oreo along with an overall improved UI experience for the ZenFone 3.  One of those changes is a new app drawer where you will simply swipe up to show all the apps installed on your phone.  This behavior is similar to Google’s Pixel devices.

The OnHub has high performance antennas that auto-tune to give you the best Wi-Fi experience in your home without you having to do anything.  It does this by moving your device from channel to channel to find the least crowded one on your network.
