Good news this morning for those of you who have the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active on the AT&T network.  Your Android Oreo 8.0 update is now starting to roll out.  The update, according to AT&T, is build R16NW.G891AUCU3CRE7 and it is about 1.5GB in size.   The update brings the April Android Security Update and is version 8.0 of Oreo, not the more current 8.1.

Fundamentally, the update is the same that has been rolling out on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint for the normal Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge which brings all the Oreo updates along with the new Samsung Experience 9 user experience.

Let’s see if this one sticks, shall we?  Last week, Verizon began rolling out the Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on their network.  Then they pulled it.  Then they released it again.  Then they pulled it again, apparently for good for the moment.  That cause a lot of confusion and got me a nice “FAKE NEWS” comment on the article.

Sigh.

Okay, so now A&T seems to be giving it a go and has released the update for the S7 lineup on their network.  Multiple sources are pointing to screenshots of the update rolling out which comes in at about 1.7GB.  But, to this point, AT&T has not updated the support pages for either device.

Give credit where it is due:  AT&T is on a roll right now.  The US carrier was the first to release the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 last month and now have become the first to release it for the Galaxy S8 Active.  The update has been released but as is often the case, it will be slow rolling out to everyone so give it a few days.

The update is R16NW.G892AUCU2BRC5 for those keeping score at home and it is about 1.2GB in size.  That means you will want to make sure you are connected to WiFi to download it from AT&T.

Good news this morning for those of you who have the LG V30 tied to AT&T.  The Android Oreo update for the phone has been released and is starting to roll out.  The update is build OPR1.170623.026 for those keeping score at home and, typical of most Oreo updates, it comes it at a hefty 1.7GB in size.  This is one you will certainly need to download via WiFi.

The update, to some’s disappointment, does not bring Oreo 8.1 but it does bring the March Android Security Update patch.

AT&T has released the Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on their network, becoming the last major US carrier to do so.  Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint have all released the update, with Verizon being the first.

For those of you on AT&T, if you have the Galaxy S8, you are looking for build G950USQU2CRB9.  If you have a Galaxy S8+, build G955USQU2CRB9 is your jam.  In both cases, the updates come with the February Android Security Update patch and both updates come in at just over 1.5GB in size.  That means that downloading over WiFi is a must.

AT&T has announced that their initial 5G rollout will begin close to home in Dallas along with Atlanta, and Waco, Texas.  The initial rollout will be on millimeter wave spectrum and will comply with the non-standalone standard of the 3GPP.  That standard was ratified late last year.

The announcement from the carrier follows up on a previous announcement made last month that laid out their intention to have 5G in a dozen cities by the end of this year.  Yesterday’s announcement clarified where it will happen first and the technology involved.
