Netflix for Windows Phone Gets Cortana Integration in Latest Update

The Netflix for Windows Phone app has been updated to version 4.0 today and it brings a whole new user experience including integration with Cortana.  The update is available now and requires that you have a Netflix account to use the app for the movie and television show streaming service.  The new user experience is a much more modern and fresh look to the app and the video quality has also been improved so playback looks much better, especially on low bandwidth networks.

6TAG Instagram App Updated for BLU Win phone support

The 6TAG Instagram app for Windows Phone has received a minor update today, bringing support for the new BLU Win phone devices.  The update is free and available now in the Windows Phone store.  If you aren’t familiar with 6TAG, it is a great Instagram app and far superior in my opinion than the Instagram Beta app (which as far as I know has NEVER been updated).

The Glance Screen app for Windows Phone has received an update this morning that brings support for Lock screen backgrounds on your Glance screen.  The update, which is available now, has the normal mix of tweaks and fixes but the wallpaper support is new and it brings a bit of a personal touch to the screen instead of the black screen with information on it as before.

Swarm for Windows Phone Update Brings Emoji Keyboard

Foursquare has released an update to their Swarm for Windows Phone app with a wide range of updates and improvements to the app.  The headline improvement is that Swarm now has a Emoji keyboard which can be used for shouts, plans and check-in along with plan comments. The update is listed as version 1.3 and is available now in the Windows Phone store.

If by chance you are not familiar with Swarm, this is the new check-in app from Foursquare that was released back in the early summer.  Foursquare the app has turned into more of a location discovery app (which is quite good by-the-way) while Swarm has taken over as the check-in app.

Nokia has updated their HERE Drive+ and HERE Maps apps for Windows Phone today to allow users to create a new Here.com account for map and favorite synchronization.  The update for both apps is available now in the Windows Phone store.

With this update, users will be able to create a HERE account on here.com where you can import your favorites from your old Nokia account so they are synced with your device and the site.  This is part of the continued separation of what remains of Nokia and the mobile division which is now owned by Microsoft.

Office Lens App Updated with Business Card Mode

Microsoft has updated their Office Lens app for Windows Phone today, adding an experimental Business Card mode to the whiteboard and documents capture app even more powerful.  If you are not familiar with Office Lens, it allows you to snap a photo of a whiteboard, blackboard or document and it will scan them and save them to your Windows Phone and/or OneDrive.  The app is very powerful and is able to handle taking photos from side angles to give you a front facing view. It is a free app and one I recommend.
