Fifth and Likely Final Chrome 67 Build Arrives for The Chrome OS Beta Channel

A fifth and likely final Chrome 67 based build has arrived this morning in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  Build 67.0.3396.69 (Platform version: 10575.52.0) was released this morning for the majority of devices in the channel and don’t be surprised if this is the build that we see land in the Stable Channel next week.

Chrome 67 is expected to be available in the Stable Channel on June 5th.  With that date only four days away, it’s likely best to consider this .69 build as a Release Candidate and not necessarily a beta build.

Fourth Chrome 67 Based Build Arrives for The Chrome OS Beta Channel

The latest beta build of Chrome OS has landed in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  Build 67.0.3396.57 (Platform version: 10575.47.0) is now rolling out to those of you who have a Chromebook in the Beta Channel and it represents the fourth Chrome 67 based build for the channel.

As a reminder, the Beta Channel is the last step before a Chrome OS build gets released to the Stable Channel.  The Stable channel is the channel most used by Chromebook users and is the officially supported channel for the platform.

Third Chrome 67 Build Arrives in the Chrome OS Beta Channel

As expected, the Chromium team at Google has released a new beta build for the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  The update is the third beta for the channel as it is prepared for release early next month.  The update is build 67.0.3396.49 (Platform version: 10575.40.0) for those keeping score at home and is available for most devices in the channel.  The update arrived on my Acer Chromebook 15 this morning so most users should be able to upgrade to it now.

For those new to Chrome OS, the Beta Channel is the last stop before a build of the platform is released to the public Standard Channel.  Generally there are three to five beta builds before a release.  Timing wise, we probably have one more beta build to go before it is released.

Chrome OS Beta Channel Build Adds USB Drive Access to Android Apps

It looks like that Android app access to USB drives in Chrome OS is a little bit closer than anticipated.  When I wrote about this feature coming to Chrome OS back in April, it looked like the feature would land in the Chrome 68 build which isn’t due until July.  However, in the latest Chrome 67 build for the Chrome OS Beta Channel, the feature is available and SD cards or USB drives show up as a storage option.

The feature is a big deal for those who use Android apps in Chrome OS.  It means that you can store documents, music or videos on an external drive and not eat up what is often a small amount of built-in storage on your Chromebook.

Second Chrome 67 Beta Build Lands in the Chrome OS Beta Channel

As the Chromium team within Google continues to prep the next release of Chrome OS, a new build of Chrome 67 has arrived in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  Build 67.0.3396.41 (Platform version: 10575.32.0) is now available for devices and is the second Chrome 67 based build to be available to testers with devices in the channel.

As a reminder to those new to Chrome OS, the Beta Channel is the last stop before a build gets released to the publicly used Stable Channel.  Chrome 67 is expected to be released on our around June 5, 2018.  That means we likely have a couple of more beta builds coming before it is released.

Chrome OS Beta Channel Updated to Chrome 67

As expected, the Chrome OS Beta Channel has officially been updated to Chrome 67 as the Chromium team prepares the next major update of the platform.  Chrome 67 will bring a number of improvements and features to Chrome OS and is slated for release on June 5th of this year.

The new build is 67.0.3396.26 (Platform version: 10575.22.0) which is the last build that landed in the Dev Channel late last week.  While it hasn’t happened yet, the Chrome OS Dev Channel should be updated to Chrome 68 later today. For those that are new to Chrome OS, the Beta Channel is the last stop before a release of the platform is sent to the Stable Channel.  The Dev Channel is what would be considered Alpha code.

A Rare Sixth Beta Build Lands in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

A somewhat surprising sixth beta build has landed in the Chrome OS Beta Channel today, three days after had been expected to be released to the Stable Channel.  Build 66.0.3359.137 (Platform version: 10452.74.0) is now available to most device that are registered in the Beta Channel and you can check for the update by typing chrome://help in the browser bar.

Chrome 66 for Chrome OS had been expected to be released by April 24th according to the Chromium Release Calendar but clearly the team has found some show stopping bugs or issues that have prevented that release.  Delays are not common but they do happen if testers find an issue late in the beta cycle.

Fifth and Likely Final Chrome 66 Build Lands in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

With Chrome 66 landing on all of the browser variants of Chrome this week, both desktop and mobile, the last update is with Chrome OS.  That is expected to happen next week on April 25th.  In the meantime, a fifth and likely final beta of Chrome 66 has arrived in the Chrome OS Beta Channel for those who have their devices in that channel.  The new build is 66.0.3359.117 (Platform version: 10452.69.0).

For those who have a machine in the Beta Channel, you should check for the update by typing chrome://help in the browser bar and clicking the Check for Update button.
