Gmail Rolling Out Improved Delete Mail Search

Google has posted on the Google Apps blog about an update coming to Gmail that will help you find that email you may have accidentally deleted.  While searching for a delete mail is already in Gmail for Android, this latest update will now not only search your Trash folder but will also search your Spam folder too.  The update is expected to rollout as an update to the Gmail app over the course of the next few weeks.

Google Could Be Bringing Services to Windows 10 Mobile

Some interesting news and rumors to start your week.  Tomorrow, Microsoft is holding an event where it is widely expected that they will launch at least two new Windows 10 Mobile devices along with the new Surface 4 Pro and other key announcements.  This event likely is a signal that the mobile version of Windows 10 is at or very close to completion.

Now there are rumors floating about that Google will be in attendance and that they will be announcing a wide range of Google apps to access their services on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.  This would be a huge step forward in the relationship between the two tech giants with Google pretty much ignoring Microsoft and Windows these past few years.  If you remember, I wrote a piece on the one sided relationship between the companies earlier this year and as of today, not much has changed.  That could be very different tomorrow.

Gmail Update Brings Blocking Senders and Unsubscribing Support

Google has released an update to the Gmail app for Android and with the update comes some nice inbox management tools.  The update is in the process of being released into the Google Play Store and should be arriving on your Android phone or tablet over the course of the next few days.  With the update will come the ability to block senders (something you can already do but it is improved) and unsubscribe to a newsletter from the message menu.  It gives you a bit more control over your inbox and should help declutter it a bit.

Google Set to Improve Google Apps and Google Calendar Integration

Over the course of the next three weeks, Google is going to be rolling out updates to Google apps that will allow for events to be automatically entered into your Google Calendar.  Now users won’t have to create the events on their own – they simply will appear in your calendar from sources like Gmail.  The update is part of the continuing effort from Google to make their apps and services more user friendly and integrated.

In the blog post announced the change, Google uses the example of an upcoming flight you have booked and you have received the email confirmation in your Gmail account.

When an individual receives an email in Gmail with flight, hotel, restaurant, or ticketed event information, that event will be automatically added to their Google Calendar, complete with things like flight numbers and check-in times. Calendar will even update those events if plans change and a new email is received (for instance, when a flight is delayed or a reservation pushed back).

No more having to create these events on your own.  Google apps will do it for you.

Fixing Google Inbox Notifications on Your Android Device

UPDATE:  I am updating this post as it is still one of the most read articles on the site.  Please check out the post I made on an update to Gmail.  In that post, I outline the back end changes Google made to Gmail that has fixed this issue for Marshmallow users.

Google Inbox is the new and improved email app for Gmail that been met with mix feelings.  It is certainly a more clean email app that puts your emails into bundles (think categories) automatically to decluter your device.  It works but if you are a hardcore Gmail user on your Android phone or tablet, it will take some time to adjust.  But personally I like it and encourage you to give it a try.  Google Inbox is another app that Google has ported out of their builds of Android as stand alone apps much like Google Calendar.

An reoccurring theme with Google Inbox is the notifications not activating properly.  The Google Play Store have plenty of reviews pointing this out and while Google has updated the app several times, it still is a problem for some.  I was one of those and after a lot of trying to sort it out, I was just about to uninstall the app.  Then I figured it out and since then – over two weeks now – it has worked flawlessly.  In this How To I’m going to show you the way that I disabled Gmail notifications and got Google Inbox notifications working.  It isn’t rocket science and certainly will fall into the “duh” category for some of you but if you are like me, I found it a bit challenging to sort out.

Gmail for Android Update Brings Easy Recent Conversation View

The official Gmail app for Android has been updated today, bringing a new recent conversations view with your contacts.  The update version will vary by device but on my KitKat driven BLU VIVO IV it is version 5.2.93061572 (say that three times real fast) for those keeping score at home.  The update also has some other new features including some that will benefit those of you who are on Lollipop.

Google Maps Update Adds Reservation Support for Gmail

Google has released an update to Google Maps that will be a welcome update for those who use Gmail.  The update will have a varying version number based on your device but on my BLU VIVO IV phone running KitKat 4.4, I’m on version 9.8.1 for those keeping score at home.  The biggest update is much improved Gmail integration where you can easily find your next reservation.
