Android Oreo for The HTC 10 on Sprint Rolling Out Today

HTC Vice President of Product Management, Mo Versi, has once again taken to Twitter to announced a new update for one of the company’s phones.  This time it is for the HTC 10 for customers of Sprint here in the United States.

The release of Oreo on the Sprint variant of the HTC 10 comes literally a month to the day after the build was released for the unlocked variant of the 2016 flagship phone.  That update just over 1.5GB in size so those of you who have the 10 on Sprint, you can expect a similarly sized update for your phone.

Android Oreo Update Released for the HTC 10

The Android Oreo update for the 2016 HTC flagship phone, the HTC 10, has been released for the unlocked variant.  The update is build 3.16.617.2 for those keeping score at home and it is a hefty 1.5GB download.  You’ll certainly need to download it via WiFi.

The update brings all the goodness of Android Oreo to the HTC 10 with things such as Picture-in-Picture, App Notifications and Notification channels just to name a few things.  The update also represents the last major update to the 10.  It shipped with Android Marshmallow in 2016 and was upgraded to Nougat last year.  Kudos to HTC for offering the upgrade on the two year old phone when many other manufactures don’t do so.

HTC 10 on Verizon To Start Getting Nougat Update March 30th

Some 4 months after the release of the Android Nougat update for the unlocked HTC 10, Verizon is finally releasing the update to the phone on their network.  The fun begins tomorrow, March 30th, according to a Tweet from HTC’s Mo Versi.  The update will make Verizon the last to update the phone on their network here in the United States.  T-Mobile rolled out the update back in January while Sprint rolled it out in February.  AT&T did not sell the HTC 10.

HTC, for their part, have been good about getting updates out on the HTC 10 when it comes to the unlocked version of the phone.  However, for carrier locked devices, they are at the mercy of the carriers to get the updates out to devices.  Verizon is notoriously slow at doing this so it isn’t a surprise they are the last one to update the phone on their network.

HTC Once Again Tries Rolling Out Nougat To The HTC 10

To say that HTC has had a challenging time rolling out Android Nougat to their flagship HTC 10 device in Europe would be… well, it would be putting it nicely.  The fact is, it has been a debacle.  It originally rolled out back in November but was stopped due to software issues.  It was resumed, then stopped once again for “technical” issues.  So will this third attempt finally stick?  Let’s all hope so.

If you are in mainland Europe and have a 10, you should start seeing the OTA update to move you to Nougat over the course of the next few days.  That update will require a reboot of course but will not wipe your phone (last week HTC released the update for those who wanted to manually flash that wiped their devices by design).   Overall the update should take you about 30 minutes from start to finish but make sure you are on Wi-Fi to do the download of the update as it is just over 1GB in size.

HTC 10 on T-Mobile Gets Updated to Android Nougat

Good news again today regarding Android Nougat.  T-Mobile has released the Nougat update to the HTC 10 for customers with that device on their network.  The update comes 6 weeks after the release of the update for the unlocked version of the phone which is a fair amount of time given T-Mobile has a good reputation on getting updates out to their customers.  If you have the HTC 10, you are looking for software update 2.37.531.5.  It should be hitting devices over the next few days via an OTA update.

Because this update is going from Marshmallow to Nougat, the update is hefty.  It comes in at just over 1GB so you will want to make sure you are on Wi-Fi to download it.  Once it is downloaded, you will need about 30 minutes to complete the upgrade process.

Android Nougat Coming to the Unlocked US Version of the HTC 10

Great news to start your Friday HTC 10 owners.  If you have one here in the US and it is unlocked, Android Nougat will be hitting your device starting today.  The news came from HTC’s Mo Versi who announced it on Twitter late on Thanksgiving day (when most of us were in food coma).

The HTC 10 has been one of the more underrated phones of 2016.  It is a solid performer with solid specs and now that it has Nougat, it will really bump up the appeal of this phone.  HTC has also been fantastic about keeping this phone up-to-date by having security patches out 30-45 days after they are released from Google.  This alone makes them stand out from other manufactures but you are also getting a great phone on top of it.

HTC Refines Nougat Update Dates for Devices

HTC took to Twitter yesterday and clarified the target dates for the Android Nougat update to their devices.  The news is mixed in that it looks like there is still going to be another couple of months before we see the first device updated but, to their credit, the company is being upfront about things.  According to the Tweet, the HTC 10 will be the first of their devices updated and that will happen in Q4 of this year.

Probably more disappointing is that the One A9 will not be updated until after the older One M9.

HTC Announces Android Nougat Coming to Three Devices

Well that didn’t take long!  HTC has just tweeted that three of their devices will be seeing the Android Nougat release.  For those of you who have an HTC 10, HTC One A9 or HTC One M9, it is a pretty darn spiffy day.

This is great news for sure and while the HTC 10 was almost a lock to get Nougat, seeing on the One A9 and One M9 is great to see too.
