Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 Updates to Oreo 8.1 Starting to Roll Out

HMD Global, the company that owns Nokia, has begun slow rolling the Android Oreo 8.1 update out to the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.  Starting in India and Indonesia, the update to 8.1 is expected to make its way to all global markets in the coming days.

For both devices, the update is just under 1GB in size and brings with it the March Android Security Update to both phones.  If you don’t recall what all comes in Oreo 8.1, you can get a debrief here.

Android Oreo Update Rolling Out to The LG V30 on AT&T

Good news this morning for those of you who have the LG V30 tied to AT&T.  The Android Oreo update for the phone has been released and is starting to roll out.  The update is build OPR1.170623.026 for those keeping score at home and, typical of most Oreo updates, it comes it at a hefty 1.7GB in size.  This is one you will certainly need to download via WiFi.

The update, to some’s disappointment, does not bring Oreo 8.1 but it does bring the March Android Security Update patch.

Google Releases The First Developer Preview for Wear OS Running Android P

Google has released the first Android P based developer preview of Wear OS today, giving developers a chance to take a sneak peak and giving consumers a preview of what to expect in the next major release for the platform.  The developer preview is aimed squarely at developers and only works on the Huawei Watch 2 Bluetooth or Huawei Watch 2 Classic Bluetooth.  Installing the preview is a manual flashing process and Google has made it clear, this is not ready for consumers to test out.

As for as new features are concerned, there are some exciting ones to look forward to in this build.  A dark theme will now be available and will be set as the default.  This should improve glanceability of notifications and other information on watches.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Down to $399 in Black on Amazon

YouTube TV Update Brings Customizable Live Guide

Readers who subscribe to YouTube TV may want to check for a new feature that is rolling out.  A cloud-side change is happening for the app and when it lands on your account, you will have the ability to customize your live channel guide.

The new feature is found under Settings>Live Guide and allows you to move channel orders around to one that works best for you.  This way you can have your favorite channels at the top of the list instead of having to go find it.

Google Maps Adds Language Support for 39 Languages and 1.2 Billion People

Google Maps, one of Google’s apps with over 1 billion users, has been updated to bring nearly four dozen new languages.  The update is a cloud-side change so as long as you are running latest version of the app on your phone, you are good to go.

As for the 39 new languages, here is the full list:  Afrikaans, Albanian, Amharic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Burmese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, Georgian, Hebrew, Icelandic, Indonesian, Kazakh, Khmer, Kyrgyz, Lao, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Mongolian, Norwegian, Persian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Uzbek, Vietnamese, and Zulu.

Galaxy Note8 on AT&T Getting Updated to Android Oreo Today

Good news this morning for Samsung Galaxy Note8 owners on AT&T.  Your Android Oreo update is now rolling out.  The 1.4GB update is build N950USQU3CRC2 for those keeping score at home and has been released by the carrier.  That means devices will start getting updates as soon as today.

And let’s take a moment to give AT&T a bit of credit.  They are notoriously slow at getting updates out to their customers but, in the case of the Note8, they were first.  They beat out Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.  Kudos AT&T!

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro Are Finally Official – And Impressive

After weeks of rumors and leaks, the Huawei P20 and P20 Plus have finally been officially announced by the Chinese manufacture.  The two new phones follow up on last year’s P10 lineup and they both bring some serious specs to the table.

Both devices are powered by the Huawei Kirin 970 SoC, the same one used in the larger Mate 10 Pro.  The P20 comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while the P20 Plus will sport 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.  Neither device supports memory expansion, just like the Mate 10 Pro.
