Official F1 App Updated for The 2018 Season

With the 2018 F1 season just 79 days away, the Liberty Media owned sport is already ramping things up to get fans ready.  This morning a new update to the official F1 app was released for Android, bringing with it the 2018 race schedule and some overall changes to the look of the app.

The update is version 10.004 for those keeping score at home and if you have the app already installed, you should get the OTA update over the course of the next few days.  The first change you will notice is the app’s icon has changed to reflect the new, and somewhat controversial, logo for the sport.  The logo had not changed since 1994 but with new owners comes new looks.

Formula 1 App Update Brings Improved UI for the 2017 Championship

The official Formula 1 app for Android has received a nice update this week ahead of the start of the 2017 championship in a few weeks time.  The update brings a significantly improved UI to the app with bottom navigation buttons and a brighter overall look to the app.  All of the content that you have had in past seasons is still there but there are a load of new notifications you can sign up for within the app, including the current pre-season testing that is going on in Barcelona.

The Formula 1 app is a subscription-based app.  For free, you get live timing at each race, post-race interviews, video highlights and standings.  The $2.99 per month subscription gets you access to all of that plus timing & scoring for all sessions (practice & qualifying), in-car audio, in-race commentary and full 3D maps that you can view the race in action.

F1 2016 Arrives for Android

After arriving on iOS a few weeks back, F1 2016 has arrived for Android.  The racing simulator gives you all 21 races of the just concluded 2016 season and allows you to race as your favorite team and driver in one-off races, a season and in weekly challenges.  Codemasters, who has been developing the official F1 games for Xbox, Playstation and PC, fully optimized this build of the game for mobile with mobile friendly touch controls and graphics.  If you have played one of their games in the past on other platforms, you will not be disappointed with what you see in this game.

The game weighs in at a hefty 1.2GB download and you will need at least 2.7GB of storage on your device in order to install it.  Yes it is heavy but all that graphic goodness comes at a cost, mostly the amount of storage required.

F1 2016 Coming to Android

Formula One fans have a lot to be excited about these days.  This year’s championship is a bit closer (amongst the Mercedes drivers at least), fat, 70s-style tires are coming next season, there are new owners of the sport and Codemasters is finally making their game available for mobile devices!  F1 2016, the outstanding F1 career and racing game that has been available for consoles, will be coming to iOS and Android later this year as a paid app.  The news came from the Apple event yesterday where the epic racing game will first be coming to iOS and later to Android.  How much later is unclear but it should be this year.

F1 2016 brings you the entire 2016 season, all 21 races, along with all the teams and drivers.  It is officially licensed from Formula One Management (FOM) so this is not a knock-off.  This is the real deal and if it is anything like the console games, it will be a real treat.

Google Street View Adds A Virtual Walk Through The Ferrari Museum

Today, Google Street View has released a curated walk through the Ferrari museum in Maranello, Italy.  The collection of views allows you to walk through the famous road car and Formula One team’s museums and see many parts of the Ferrari campus as well.  For any fan of the Scuderia, this is a great edition and even if you are not a big F1 or Ferrari fan, this walk through is pretty sweet.  To find them, just search for Ferrari in the app and you’ll be taken to the new collection.

Review Of The Official F1 App For Android

The 2016 Formula One season kicks off this weekend in Melbourne, Australia in what promises to be an interesting season.  Mercedes has dominated F1 the last couple of years but all eyes are on Ferrari as they look potent in pre-season testing while Williams, Force India and Red Bull scrap to stay in the hunt each weekend.  And don’t forget that in 2016 there is a new F1 team from America:  HaaS F1.  Whether you are an old fan like me or new to the sport, the Official F1 app for Android is a must-have app.  Regardless if you use the free version of the app or get the extra benefits of the premium monthly service, there is a wealth of information about the teams, drivers, and news from around the paddock with the premium service bringing some great live action and radio at each race.  Overall it is a solid app but there are a few things that could stand a bit of improvement. Here is my review.
